NL Auction Chat Transcript

9:20
Jason Collette: Had some technical issues in here, but we should be good to go now.

9:20
Jason Collette: Billy Hamilton goes $22 to Gianella

9:20
Jason Collette: Reminder, this is an OBP league now and batting average has been killed!

9:22
Comment From Tim McLeod
Morning Jason.

9:22
Comment From Brian
Does Hamilton’s price vs LABR reflect that change?

Jason Collette: I think his performance in the spring is more reflective

9:24
Comment From KeeperNewb
How are you this morning Jason?

Jason Collette: Not hungover for a change, so that’s a start!

9:25
Comment From FantasyBaseballTalk (Lance Luther)
Do Australia games count if no one from the US sees them?

9:25
Comment From Tim McLeod
Ha, quiet night in the big city?

Jason Collette: Had to — been working myself ragged all week

9:26
Jason Collette: Hey, it’s me, Pedro Alvarez…..and I go to ESPN for $24

9:26
Comment From Tim McLeod
Another OBP stud!

9:27
Comment From Brian
Zola pays the price for Kimbrel. Wonder if he’s trying his elite closer paired with lower tier pitching strategy here.

9:27
Comment From Mike L.
Is it the feed, or is the auction proceeding this slowly?

Jason Collette: It’s some issues with the sheet. Moyer’s laptop was acting up, so we had to switch machines and get it caught up.

9:28
Comment From Tim McLeod
agreed Mike, seems a bit lagging

9:28
Jason Collette: My boy Carlos Gomez goes $31 to Lenny. Over/under on Lenny dropping $130 on his outfield?

9:29
Comment From Tim McLeod
Over

9:29
Comment From Mike L.
over… lol

9:30
Jason Collette: McCutchen goes $38

9:31
Comment From Mike L.
To?

9:31
Comment From Tim McLeod
Cargo, more or less Jason?

Jason Collette: Cargo went 33. McCutchen went to Peter

9:32
Comment From Mike L.
$37

9:32
Jason Collette: Wilderman purchased CarGo. Wilderman also gets Ryan Braun for $34

9:33
Comment From Tim McLeod
Unless Lenny pays 20+ for Maybin the under might come into play

9:33
Jason Collette: Bryce Harper $33 to Hertz

9:33
Comment From Mike L.
Burn, baby, burn… roto inferno!

9:33
Jason Collette: If Lenny isn’t going the over, it will be the first time I’ve seen him go cheap on the OF

9:33
Comment From Tim McLeod
yup

9:34
Jason Collette: Freddie Freeman goes to McCaffrey for $32. Figured he would roster him – loves him

9:34
Comment From Tim McLeod
sure does

9:34
Comment From Guest
how can I listen/watch the auction, besides the chat/spreadsheet?

Jason Collette: SiriusXM radio is the only place broadcasting it

9:35
Comment From Tim McLeod
Who’s doing the call at Sirius?

   Jason Collette: Elfrink, Erickson, Liss

9:35
Jason Collette: Jansen $22 to Wilderman. That’s 3 players for him for $89 (Cargo, Braun, Jansen)

9:35
Comment From FantasyBaseballTalk (Lance Luther)
Am I the only one concerned with Waino’s IPs last year?

Jason Collette: I believe you are

9:35
Comment From Tim McLeod
no

9:36
Jason Collette: Rosenthal $20 to McCaffrey

9:36
Jason Collette: Posey $24 to Cockcroft

9:37
Comment From KeeperNewb
I’m computer problems during my own draft hungover does that count?

Jason Collette: It does in my book!

9:37
Comment From Tim McLeod
How much for Kimbrel and Jansen?

9:37
Jason Collette: We’re going to have to bump up the amount of clicks during a break. We’re already over the threshold for new people to get in. Justin Upton $28 to Gianella

9:37
Comment From Mike L.
What’s amazing to me is that after repeated lack of success, teams continue to employ the same strategies. Gotta go into the auction with multiple strategies and let the room dictate what to focus on.

Jason Collette: I wonder how much that would change with money at stake and not just reputation. That isn’t to question the credibility or professionalism of anyone in these rooms, but Einstein’s quote does tend to rattle in my head from time to time in these drafts.

9:38
Comment From Tim McLeod
Will be interesting to see price on Chapman

Jason Collette: Chapman went $10 to Gardner

9:39
Comment From Tim McLeod
I would have tossed his name out there early

9:39
Jason Collette: Hanley $30 to Kreutzer

9:39
Comment From Mike L.
Yes, Tim. I’d avoid him. Good time to nominate him.

Jason Collette: He did go early when we were having the tech issues. Mad-Bum $25 to Kreutzer

9:40
Comment From FantasyBaseballTalk (Lance Luther)
don’t leave us hanging on Einstein’s quote….

Jason Collette: “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

9:40
Comment From Tim McLeod
$10 could be a nice buy if he returns on schedule

Jason Collette: vertigo is going to be the big thing to deal with once the initial haze fades away. It was a tough thing for Cobb last year. Gerrit Cole to McCaffrey for $18

9:41
Comment From Guest
just signed up for sirius. assuming rotowire fantasy baseball channel? sorry to bother.

Jason Collette: Yes, XM 87, Sirius 210

9:41
Comment From FantasyBaseballTalk (Lance Luther)
LOL. never knew that was attributed to him

9:41
Jason Collette: Cliff Lee $27 for Brian Walton

9:41
Comment From Mike L.
True, but I prefer to let other teams roll the dice this early.

9:42
Comment From Slyke
Like the Cole buy. I knew Gene was bullish on him.

Jason Collette: Concur. Man I love watching Cole pitch

9:42
Comment From Tim McLeod
that makes three

9:42
Jason Collette: Curious to see what the Padres pitchers like Ross, Cashner, and Johnson go for. Rosario $18 to Wilderman. That’s 4 players for $117

9:43
Jason Collette: Jay Bruce $28 to Hertz

9:43
Comment From Rotosauce
that is a freaking deal on Cole.

9:43
Comment From guest
i don’t see Kimbrel on the sheetet

Jason Collette: he went to Zola for $25

9:44
Comment From Tim McLeod
some big dollars for closers

Jason Collette: Yea, looks like a few bucks went to Jansen & Kimbrel from Chapman rather than adjusting them to the CbC situation that Price says they’ll use

9:44
Comment From Tim McLeod
How many teams other than Lenny will be blowing off saves this year?

9:45
Comment From Revco
The quote I was thinking of was “There are only two things that are infinite, the universe and stupidity…..and we’re still not sure about the universe.”

9:45
Jason Collette: Gio $18 to Melnick

9:45
Comment From Brian
Hertz spending the money early.

9:46
Comment From Tim McLeod
Told Lenny to upgrade to a Chevy, wouldn’t listen

9:46
Jason Collette: Tulo for $29 to Kreutzer. Gianella got to $28, but ever true to his values, wouldn’t go up

9:47
Comment From Tim McLeod
Peter loves his Tulo

9:47
Jason Collette: Zimmermannnnnnn $18 to Zola

9:47
Jason Collette: Yelich $16 to Gene

9:48
Jason Collette: Heyward $25 to Walton

The unfortunately named Doug Fister for 14

9:50
Comment From Tim McLeod
Peter $160 spent on 5

9:50
Jason Collette: Molina $18 to Trachtman

9:50
Comment From Rotosauce

9:50
Comment From Slyke
Nice price on Zimmerman.

9:51
Jason Collette: will be a break in 7 bids fro now

9:51
Jason Collette: Adrian Gonzalez $24 to Trachtman

9:52
Jason Collette: Carpenter $23 to Gardner

9:52
Jason Collette: Chapman the only true cheap guy so far

9:53
Jason Collette: Jason Grilli — skills are there – goes $15 to Gene

9:53
Comment From Tim McLeod
clearing out the top-tier real early, should make for a very interesting middle

Jason Collette: Thought we may see someone throw a changeup, but it’s been all fastballs thus far

9:53
Comment From Scott G
Like that buy on Grilli

Jason Collette: yep – his skills are above average across the board

9:54
Comment From FantasyBaseballTalk (Lance Luther)
Jason, you were great on RotoExperts with Scott and Ronis. How was the “studio”?

Jason Collette: Thanks. Love doing the in-studio work. Beats podcasting from my kitchen with dogs barking out my window!

9:54
Jason Collette: Pence $26 to Melnick…..we may get the over!

9:55
Jason Collette: Jean Segura $25 to Trachtman

9:55
Comment From Tim McLeod
Pence a Lenny fav, over in sight

Jason Collette: Consistent player – last year’s steals were a bonus.

9:56
Comment From Mike L.
Other than the man crush Gene has on Freddie, I’m really liking his auction.

Jason Collette: Yep – I consistently like his teams

9:56
Comment From Tim McLeod
and what do we expect this year from Pence sb?

   Jason Collette: 12

9:56
Jason Collette: Everth Cabrera comes in just $1 cheaper than Segura (to Wilderman). Interesting

9:56
Comment From Tim McLeod
Very interesting

Jason Collette: speed is at a bit of a premium in the NL, but didn’t expect to see that.

9:57
Comment From Tim McLeod
agreed Jason

9:58
Comment From Mike L.
Does that mean that Villar goes for $15+?

Jason Collette: Yea, I think he does

9:59
Comment From Tim McLeod
Have to think so

10:00
Comment From FantasyBaseballTalk (Lance Luther)
according to my math, steals is one category. have a hard time paying that much…

10:00
Comment From Tim McLeod
will be interesting to see how that unfolds tomorrow

10:00
Jason Collette: Sorry – went into a break

10:02
Jason Collette: another 5 minutes or so for the break

10:03
Comment From Enver
Cmon now, the Stros have been in the AL for a year now…hence I’ll take the under on Billar for this draft 😉

Jason Collette: He may go for that in the AL

10:03
Comment From Slyke
Having problems with the spreadsheet. Did Billy Hamilton go yet?

   Jason Collette: Yes, $22

10:04
Comment From Slyke
I see Gianella got Hamilton at $22. He must be very happy with that. I know we both liked him.

Jason Collette: Yea, I’m sitting next to him here. He’s been playing footsies with me the entire time. Awkward….

10:07
Comment From Mike L.
Glad to see someone was paying attention, re: Villar…

Jason Collette: I’m an Astros fan and I occasionally forget

10:08
Comment From Tim McLeod
Opening day and Van Slyke the hero

10:08
Comment From FantasyBaseballTalk (Lance Luther)
I told Gianella that Dalton Del Don should have his credentials revoked for paying too much for Hamilton in LABR. At least he didn’t pay as much.

Jason Collette: IF (notice the size of that) Hamilton hits ceiling, it’s worth it. Ian Desmond goes $2-3 more than the last SS buys

10:12
Jason Collette: Meanwhile, Starlin Castro goes well below at $15 – nearly half of what he went for last year in the standard 5×5 format

10:12
Comment From Mike L.
Great start by Kershaw in his quest for #3. I guess spring training really doesn’t matter when we’re talking about the game’s elites.

Jason Collette: Spring Training stats that are important: 1 — HEALTH. 2. n/a

10:13
Jason Collette: Jimmy Rollins goes for $18 more than Ryne Sandberg would have paid for him to Walton. That situation is rather comical as Rollins needs just 434 PA to get his 2015 option kicked in. If Phillies are too transparent about trying to prevent that, MLBPA is going to step in

10:13
Comment From Tim McLeod
tune up time is all

10:14
Comment From Tim McLeod
Agreed jason, Phils will have to tread carefully

10:14
Comment From pianow
Ah, Dalton’s a good guy. No OBP in that league. Wide range of outcomes on Hamilton. I wouldn’t have paid it, but D3’s track record in industry leagues is very good.

Jason Collette: I would have been right there with him in that auction. I took Hamilton with the 2nd pick of the 5th round earlier this week.

10:14
Comment From Brian
Gene with another buy in pitching. I’m predicting now he ends up with Eovaldi on the back end of his staff. He really likes the guy.

Jason Collette: yea, the Eovaldi fan club has a few members

10:15
Jason Collette: Wacha and Latos 17 each to McCaffrey.

10:15
Comment From Mike L.
Yup…

10:16
Jason Collette: Jim Henderson is working on a new changeup to help with lefties, but it doesn’t help his value in here too much as he goes $11 to Gianella http://jasoncollette.com/2014-new-pitch-tracker/

10:17
Comment From Stephen
Whats going on with the spreadsheet?

Jason Collette: may need to refresh

10:17
Comment From Slyke
Great buy on Henderson.

Jason Collette: Yes, I think he’s underrated. He doesn’t have any real competition as K-Rod has pretty large splits (check out what RH do vs him)

10:17
Comment From Tim McLeod
yes, just refreshed. auto doesn’t seem to be happening

10:17
Comment From Slyke
Considering what the other closers have gone for.

10:17
Comment From Tim McLeod
agreed slyke

10:18
Comment From Mike L.
I hope that the $32 for Freeman does not come back to bite Gene’s ass… it’s looking huge right now.

Jason Collette: Freeman is odd — back to back 26+% line drive rates. I wonder if some of that is the official scoring in Atlanta since Chris Johnson also has a high rate. Both make very strong contract, but that just stands out to me.

10:18
Comment From Slyke
Hey Tim! Loved the Van Slyke quote, BTW!

10:18
Comment From Tim McLeod
Which one, lol

10:19
Jason Collette: Zola with 0 offensive buys thus far

10:19
Comment From Bill Ponderosa
Start 1 C or 2?

   Jason Collette: 2

10:20
Comment From match
Is Freeman $8 better than Agon?

Jason Collette: I don’t think so, but everyone is entitled to their own values

10:20
Comment From Tim McLeod
Only two buys in total for Todd

10:21
Jason Collette: Gardner covers the Cincy closers as he gets Hoovah for $6

10:21
Comment From pianow
Jim Henderson is a steal at 11.

   Jason Collette: agreed.

10:22
Comment From Slyke
Gianella must be pretty happy with his buys so far.

10:22
Comment From Brian
Have Henderson for a $1 in my NL only. Speculative bid 2 years ago still paying off.

10:22
Comment From Bill Ponderosa
Starting 2 catches in league-only formats is just plain mean. Pony up for Mesoraco!

Jason Collette: I’d prefer a 2 utility player format over 2 catchers. Second catcher in single leagues are brutal for most teams. Last year, I got $1 Carlos Corporan to back up my $18 Jesus Montero , and Corporan turned a profit! Die Montero!!!!!

10:22
Jason Collette: Steve Cishek by the Cishore goes $4 more than Henderson, further highlighting the good buy that Henderson was

10:22
Comment From Tim McLeod
Archie Bradley @ $3 to Mike. Like that pick

10:23
Jason Collette: and I’m a big Cishek guy

10:23
Comment From Scott G
I want to start a petition to eliminate 2C in only leagues

   Jason Collette: #KillThe2ndCatcher

10:23
Comment From Slyke
Me too, Tim.

10:23
Comment From Slyke
Bradley could be pretty sweet at that price.

10:23
Comment From Brian
But then you’d miss out on the fun of owning George Kottaras.

Jason Collette: Owned him one year as well

10:25
Jason Collette: The National League’s human windmill (not Upton, Reynolds) goes for $7. Thank goodness for OBP format

10:25
Comment From Bill Ponderosa
Actually knew that Jason. Sleeper & the bust trivia

   Jason Collette: Boom!!!

10:25
Comment From Scott G
I don’t want to have to choose between Lobaton or Molina #KillThe2ndCatcher

Jason Collette: Lobaton, the ice cream man!

10:26
Comment From Mike L.
I love two catchers. Adds another dimension to team construction.

10:26
Comment From Tim McLeod
Always liked Bengie….

   Jason Collette: Gustavo is underrated

10:27
Comment From Sporer
hola

   Jason Collette: HE LIVES!!!

10:28
Comment From Sporer
Alive and well… wellish

Jason Collette: auctioning off the gall bladder?

10:28
Jason Collette: Homer Bailey, the 2014 Cy Young Award winner (yea, I said it), goes $17 to Tristan as Gene says he just couldn’t go $18 on the guy after spending the money on Latos & Wacha earlier.

10:29
Comment From Bill Ponderosa
Life question: it’s 1030 am. Should I get out of bed?

Jason Collette: Depends. If you’re in it alone, yes. If not, shut the laptop off

10:29
Jason Collette: Sergio Romo and alllllll of those sliders goes $4 more than Henderson

10:30
Comment From Tim McLeod
Papelbon $14, Parnell $12, Hendo $11. Liking Hendo buy even more

10:30
Comment From Brian
I’ll be passing on all those sliders in my draft. Probably won’t pass on the next option in SF.

10:30
Jason Collette: and the $15 market for tier 2 closers continues as Reed goes for that to Tristan

10:30
Comment From Sporer
They didn’t even give me the gallbladder. Jerks prob made a killing off of it

Jason Collette: they’ll probably bill you the e-Bay posting fee

10:31
Comment From Bill Ponderosa
Yeah, the ladyfriend left around 8. You’re right. The beers are in the downstairs fridge after all…

Jason Collette: I can always applaud pre-11am drinking. I started at 8:30 yesterday morning while auctioneering

10:32
Jason Collette: Rafael Soriano goes $13. I have too many caution flags with he & Papelbon to pay for them this season myself. Looking at the declines in whiff rates (swing/miss) concerns me greatly. Invest in Tyler Clippard

10:33
Jason Collette: Slyke – Mike says hey

10:33
Jason Collette: Gyorko goes $17, Walker goes $16 as the next 2 2B off the board

10:33
Comment From Bill Ponderosa
Starting with a 10% ABV selection. What could go wrong??

   Jason Collette: Absolutely nothing

10:35
Comment From Tim McLeod
Peter, $63 left, 16 to buy

10:36
Jason Collette: Jose Veras and his 20 saves before being traded somewhere goes $8

10:36
Comment From Tim McLeod
Todd, $202 left, 20 to buy

10:36
Comment From FantasyBaseballTalk (Lance Luther)
It may be wrong, but I like Kreutzer’s style. Go big or go home!

Jason Collette: He tends to do that. Also very active early in FAAB

10:36
Comment From Tim McLeod
agreed Lance

10:37
Comment From Slyke
Tell him I said hello, Jason. I will give him a ring later.

   Jason Collette: will do

10:38
Jason Collette: Thought Zola was going to get that 1st offensive buy, but Hertz snaked him and got Aramis Ramirez at $21

10:39
Comment From Brian
Mike hasn’t fulfilled his Venable love yet. Just a matter of time I suppose.

10:39
Jason Collette: Shelby Miller sat at $9 for a little bit, and then ends up going $15 to Wilderman. He goes $2 cheaper than Wacha…and Miller is better

10:40
Comment From Tim McLeod
4 teams with two closers

10:40
Comment From Tim McLeod
Lenny and Mike will be battling on the venerable one

10:40
Comment From FantasyBaseballTalk (Lance Luther)
there should be a study…. where does the last team to buy a hitter finish at the end of the year. it would be more interesting than informative, I think.

10:40
Jason Collette: 1st Padre goes — $11 for Ross to Gianella

10:41
Jason Collette: BREAKING: TODD ZOLA BUYS A HITTER. Not shocking – it is Mark Trumbo. He owns him in 25 of the 21 drafts he’s done this year

10:42
Jason Collette: Allen Craig goes to Mr. Cardinal (Walton) for $25

10:42
Comment From Tim McLeod
Geez, he looks even more horrible than I anticipated in field

10:42
Comment From Tim McLeod
Trumbo, that is

10:43
Comment From Mike L.
I’ve seen Zola hold back before… unsuccessfully, I might add. Don’t understand replaying failed strategies.

10:44
Jason Collette: Teheran $16

10:44
Jason Collette: Zola sat back last year, grabbed Schierholtz at $12ish in 2 leagues. He just passed on Phillips at $21 so he went to Lenny for $20

10:45
Jason Collette: and Todd buys his 2nd player — Utley for $19. Saved $2 on Phillips

10:46
Jason Collette: and Zola buys his 2nd consecutive $19 2B with Aaron Hill

10:46
Comment From Mike L.
Holding back against average joes is usually successful, but not with this crowd.

10:46
Comment From FantasyBaseballTalk (Lance Luther)
well…. the game wouldn’t be any fun if we all used the same “strategery”

10:48
10:48
Comment From Slyke
Mike is bullish in Ross.

   Jason Collette: Paul Sporer’s influence

10:48
Comment From Gold Glove Trumbo
Who won NL Tout last year?

   Jason Collette: Tristan Cockcroft

10:49
Comment From FantasyBaseballTalk (Lance Luther)
to be fair to Trumbo, the fan was pointing in the wrong direction…

Jason Collette: heard Trumbo just went for $38 in my home league where there was 30% inflation

10:51
Jason Collette: $87 in pitching for Gene who has 5 pitchers. Guessing he’ll $1 out the rest of his staff or come close to it

10:51
Comment From Tim McLeod
Marte @ $28

10:52
Jason Collette: Khris Davis goes $20 to Melnick for $20 – we’re at $77 for 3 OFers

10:53
Comment From Matt
I’ve watched Trumbo play a lot of OF in LA. He isn’t good, but he isn’t as bad as what you saw today.

Jason Collette: His range is a problem, and Chase Field is big to the gaps. Pollock will help.

10:53
Jason Collette: Cashner goes $15 to Gianella as he’s spent $26 total on 2 of the 3 Padres staters

10:53
Comment From TMac
How is tout handling LA/Ariz games?

Jason Collette: You are drafting your week 1 lineup, that includes the games down under

10:55
Comment From Tim McLeod
The under might be the winner on Lenny’s OF, $61 left, 14 to buy

Jason Collette: he may even buy a closer in this draft!

10:55
Jason Collette: BJ Upton went $16. $17 more than I was willing to pay

10:56
Comment From match
Kemp $21 and Davis $20, that’s interesting

Jason Collette: It is; and I would rather have the latter. That foot of Kemp worries me

10:56
Comment From Tim McLeod
Blasphemy Jason! You sure you weren’t consuming last night?

Jason Collette: I had 5 beers all day…..well below my fluid replacement level when I’m up here

10:58
Comment From Tim McLeod
EY2 @ $9. Cheap speed, cheap

Jason Collette: I guess people are worried he’ll pull a Pat Listach

10:58
Comment From Slyke
Agreed, Tim.

10:59
Comment From Tim McLeod
I might still own him somewhere Jason

Jason Collette: he’s a coach on the Astros now

10:59
Jason Collette: Ludwick gets first crickets at $11

11:00
Jason Collette: Javier Baez goes $8 to Gene. Cubs should just let him play CF from day one and forget the other bums.

11:00
Comment From Tim McLeod
and deny Jr Lake?

Jason Collette: Lake, Baez, and Schierholtz now!

11:01
Comment From Mike L.
Now, that’s a buy! Well done, Gino.

11:02
Comment From Tim McLeod
How much on Polanco?

Jason Collette: I feel he may go double digits. He has a clearer path to playing time

11:03
Comment From Tim McLeod
Agreed Jason, clock is ticking

11:03
Comment From Mike L.
Lake isn’t half bad.. great athlete, just not a great player.

11:03
Jason Collette: Cingrani $14 to Zola. all the fastballs are belong to Zola

11:03
Jason Collette: Jayson Werth goes $27. Sporer would have spent at least $30 more

11:04
Comment From Tim McLeod
Wheeler @ $10 to Tristan, am really liking that

11:04
Comment From Doug Dennis
So far, give me Trachtman’s team. Love the Starlin Castro price.

Jason Collette: Seth has spent $45 on pitching, and you love his team???? Who has hacked Doug’s account??!!

11:05
Comment From Doug Dennis
lol

11:07
Jason Collette: Ike Davis, leg and all, goes $11 to Cockcroft

11:07
Comment From Tim McLeod
Prado to Peter @$22

11:07
Jason Collette: as the H stands for “what the (H)ell did I buy Ike Davis for?”

11:07
Comment From ZAN
Wheeler at $10? Great value!

11:08
Comment From Doug Dennis
Prado 2b/3b/of has added value in a deep league like this.

11:08
Jason Collette: Cole Hamels goes $15 to Walton If that shoulder is good by May 1st, sweet buy

11:08
Comment From Doug Dennis
yes–really good price for Hamels. Looks like spenders are hitting the brakes.

11:09
Jason Collette: Wellington Castillo and all of his pitch framing goes for $10

11:09
Jason Collette: Lincecum, in a spring where he said he wants to get more groundballs and stop trying to K everyone, goes $9 to Gardner. Gotta love when a pitcher decides to give up his one remaining redeeming quality

Zola, $128 left on 16, Kreutzer $41 left on 15.

11:10
Comment From Doug Dennis
A lot of Ks for $9 (Lincecum). Just have to guard ERA.

11:11

Evan Gattis goes for $14.. I’m sure @MatthewBerryTMR will comment about him crushing it like a grape! #toutwars
11:12
Jason Collette: The market for sore shoulders is $13-$15; Hamels goes $15, Minor goes $13

11:13
Jason Collette: Big Erv Santana goes $8 — where’s Mike Siano when you need him?

11:14
Jason Collette: Brandon Belt love in the room — $22 to Carty.

11:15
Comment From Doug Dennis
spending is splitting–discount for pitchers; full boat for hitters.

Jason Collette: LABR seemed the same way, without the influence here of anyone eschewing pitching

11:15
Comment From Doug Dennis
was seemingly reversed earlier.

11:17
Comment From Tim McLeod
Chris Young @ $11 to Hertz, nice looking OF for Phil

11:17
Comment From Mike L.
Erv an absolute steal at $8

Jason Collette: he’s going to love pitching with that defense behind him

11:18
Jason Collette: Dom Brown $19…. Mr. May

11:19
Comment From Tim McLeod
Tristan and Todd have no OF. gonna be fun watching them fill that

11:19
Comment From Brian
Mike attempting to buy the entire Padres rotation

11:19
Jason Collette: Gianella corners the market on Padres starters – gets Josh Johnson for $7

11:20
Comment From Guest
Todd needs to get moving on O.

11:20
Jason Collette: Melancon only goes $4 – nearly went $2. Kinda surprised by that

11:20
Comment From Tim McLeod
very much so

11:21
Jason Collette: and Hawkins goes $4 while Brothers goes 2 more

11:21
Comment From Doug Dennis
Lots of solid RPs in NL–can backfill at $1-2 if Melancon not in the budget.

Jason Collette: If I were sitting on Clippard, I’d be encouraged by Melancon only going 4

11:21
Comment From Tim McLeod
Dee Gordon @ $7 to Todd

11:21
Jason Collette: I ask Tristan about what he’s going to do in the outfield — “Wait, we have outfielders in this league?”

11:22
Jason Collette: Samardaafadfazija $13

11:23
Comment From Doug Dennis
I like the SP prices over the past 30 mins–a lot. I need a new strategy!

Jason Collette: yea, I could live with the pitching buys if I were in this auction starting back with Miller

11:23
Comment From Tim McLeod
I thought there were only 5 “a’s” in his name?

11:23
Jason Collette: Since rules change won’t allow Tristan to punt batting average, he may just punt outfielders to spite everyone!

11:24
Comment From Tim McLeod
He might have to Jason. two teams with no OF, two more with only one

11:25
Comment From Tim McLeod
That’s a lot of OF to fill

11:26
Comment From Doug Dennis
We ran out of OF in LABR too–a lot of ugly late bids.

11:26
Comment From Brian
Zola holding back the big money for Junior Lake.

Jason Collette: he’s holding out for a mid-draft trade of Corey Kluber to the NL

11:26
Jason Collette: we finally have a Milwaukee pitcher off the board with Gallardo going for $11. I like several options on that staff this year and Gallardo may not be the most expensive one when this draft is said and done

11:27
Jason Collette: and Marco Estrada joins the fun and also goes $12. That was the one I thought would exceed Gallardo

11:27
Comment From Tim McLeod
Walton fills his OF with a $14 Crawford

11:29
Comment From Tim McLeod
Meso to Tristan @ $9. Like that price.

11:29
Jason Collette: Garza went $11 here. So, Estrada may be the most expensive of the Milwaukee starters unless there is some in-draft inflation with Lohse or Peralta

11:31
Jason Collette: Zola gets another OF with Venable at $21

11:31
Comment From Tim McLeod
Ben Revere to Gene @ $19. 50 cents a sb.

11:32
Jason Collette: by my count, Tristan is the only guy who has yet to roster an OF. Zola gets another one with Pagan at $17

11:32
Jason Collette: Poor Joe Kelly — $2 to Lenny.

11:32
Comment From Tim McLeod
My count same Jason

11:32
Comment From Tim McLeod
Derek snags Haren @ $8

Jason Collette: I like Haren quite a bit

11:33
Comment From Tim McLeod
Wong @ $11

11:33
Comment From Brian
Zola going on a buying spree

11:33
Jason Collette: Zola on a spending spree. Gets Alonso for $15

11:34
Jason Collette: bum shoulder go $13-15, bum shoulders and elbows go $4 as Gianella get Niese

11:34
Comment From LVW
3 Brewers pitchers so far and all of them were $11 each.

Jason Collette: actually, Estrada went $12

11:34
Comment From Tim McLeod
AT that price on haren agreed Jason. great buy

11:34
Comment From Stephen
Jason – do you think kelly gets the #5 spot in the rotation?

Jason Collette: I do. Martinez needs another pitch

11:35
Comment From match
Lynn for $13, Estrada for $12, Ross for $11 or Wheeler for $10? Or maybe all of em!

Jason Collette: Lynn is $1 more than I’d want, but I’d love to have that as my 4 pitchers in this auction

11:35
Comment From LVW
Estrada was Brewer #4 after Henderson, Gallardo, and Garza.

   Jason Collette: meant starters.

11:36
Comment From Tim McLeod
Tristan finally jumps in with Ethier @$12

11:36
Jason Collette: Rendon on the board — I would be irrational in bidding on him if I were participating

11:36
Jason Collette: I just learned I got Ethier for $8 in my 30% inflated NL home league. I’m quite happy

11:37
Jason Collette: and Rendon has A LOT OF LOVE

11:37
Jason Collette: $17 to Gianella

11:38
Jason Collette: Junior Lake and Javier Baez each went for $8

11:38
Comment From Brian
Junior on the board!

11:38
Comment From Tim McLeod

11:39
Jason Collette: Big Fat Bartolo Colon goes for a record-breaking $6

11:39
Comment From LVW
What did you think of Hamels at $15?

Jason Collette: I would have paid it.

11:39
Comment From Doug Dennis
I hate BFBC this year.

Jason Collette: I would have taken him $1-2

11:40
Comment From Brian
Mike the first to fill his pitching staff.

11:40
Comment From Doug Dennis
If he went at $1-2, I would too, but I would have hated it.

11:41
Jason Collette: catcher pool is arid dry at this point

11:42
Comment From Tim McLeod
Uggla @ $8 to Tristan. La Stella by May?

Jason Collette: I don’t think Atlanta is going to write off that much sunken cost with Uggla just yet. If they were going to do it in May, why not just do it right now?

11:42
Jason Collette: Travis Wood and the raging regression monsters go for $4 to Lenny

11:42
Comment From Brian
Come on Jason. There’s still Hector Sanchez, Jose Lobaton, Martin Maldanado….

11:42
Comment From Doug Dennis
Did Seth got locked in a bathroom? I liked his team a hour ago–not sure he has bought another player since!

Jason Collette: He just woke up

11:43
Comment From Doug Dennis
LaStella is not that fantastic anyway. (re: Uggla)

Jason Collette: He can play defense.

11:44
Comment From Doug Dennis
I’d rather have just kept Eliot Johnson.

Jason Collette: who is also horrendous at D. He makes Chuck Knoblauch look accurate

11:44
Jason Collette: Ruggiano goes $11 to Zola. I really dislike that, but I also have serious bias with Ruggiano

11:45
Comment From Doug Dennis
And yet . . . (damning with faint praise)

11:46
Jason Collette: break coming up in 2 picks here

11:46
Comment From Tim McLeod
Polanco @ $5 to Tristan

11:47
Jason Collette: LeMahieu goes for $8. I think he’s going to get most of that PT there because he can play defense and Rutledge can’t catch a cold. Rockies want to emphasize groundballs this year with their pitchers

11:47
Comment From Sporer
Gregory or Placido?

Jason Collette: Gregory. Sorry, missed that when I stepped out of the room. Polanco at $5 while the Cubs go $8 each is strong

11:47
Comment From Tim McLeod
the good one

11:47
Comment From Doug Dennis
agree w/LeMahieu–Walt Weiss factor. Sneaky steals from LeMahieu, too.

   Jason Collette: bingo

11:48
Jason Collette: breaktime – starting back up at high noon ET

11:50

Would BJ Upton be worse defensively at 2nd?

   Jason Collette: yes

11:59
Comment From jed
what are the top hitters remaining???

Jason Collette: Schierholtz, Parra, Uribe, Jay, Span, Morse come to mind

12:04
Comment From FantasyBaseballTalk (Lance Luther)
Zola’s team is a train wreck, yet I can stil look away.

12:04
Jason Collette: Ian Kennedy does not go to Gianella but goes for $7

12:04
Comment From Doug Dennis
disappointed (Gianella Friars)

12:05
Jason Collette: Carlos Martinez $7 to Mr. Cardinal Walton

12:05
Comment From Brian
Does Martinez win the 5 spot? Or bullpen and move to rotation later in season?

Jason Collette: He gets a job. If I ran that ship, he goes to memphis and I make hi throw 20 changeup a game

12:06
Comment From match
If you pick and choose off everyone’s roster you can find nice value. Makes me feel good for my NL next weekend.

   Jason Collette: agreed

12:07
Comment From Doug Dennis
Joe Kelly is in StL rotation. Martinez in pen. But Martinez is the electic arm. I think StL wants him to add a pitch, but he won’t be able to do that from the pen.

Jason Collette: Martinez went for $15 in my home league this morning!

12:07
Comment From Ray
Hi Guys. What software would you use in a live auction draft to keep track of budget, draft etc? Getting ready for my first live auction draft with friend. Thank you for your answers

Jason Collette: Rotolab and the software from Rotowire are both good. I saw the software from fantistics yesterday and it has a lot of stuff to use

12:07
Jason Collette: Mike Olt to Seth for $5. I like him a lot

12:08
Jason Collette: Seth on a buying spree – gets Span for $5

12:09
Comment From LVW
I created my own on Lotus 123.

   Jason Collette: you hipster you

12:10
Jason Collette: Tyler Clippard goes for $1 fewer dollar than Melancon. Could be a huge profit if things play out as I expect them to with Soriano

12:10
Jason Collette: AJ Pollock goes $9 as this year’s Adam Eaton in Arizona. Can’t wait to see where Towers trades him this offseason

12:11
Comment From Doug Dennis
Complicated by Storen. Agree about Soriano. Clippard capable.

Jason Collette: profit there. Skills give it to Clippard IMO

12:11
Comment From Doug Dennis
love Pollock at $9–he will play a lot.

12:13
Comment From Guest
JasonAre you in any of the tout’s

Jason Collette: yes, tomorrow morning in AL

12:14
Comment From LVW
Soriano threw his slider less………a lot less for a cutter that he threw over half the time.

Jason Collette: K% & whiffs were down, stuff looked less lively. Concerns – same stuff applies to Papelbum

12:14
Jason Collette: Opening Day starter Dillon Gee – $4

12:14
Comment From Doug Dennis
more concerned about Soriano than Papelbon, bc WAS cannot be patient.

Jason Collette: plus there’s no clear replacement in Philly for Pap

12:15
Jason Collette: Wily Peralta $4 to Kreutzer. Man I’d love that pitching buy

12:16
Comment From Guest
Has Byrd gone yet?

   Jason Collette: $11

12:16
Comment From LVW
Who’s the biggest threat to Papelbon?

   Jason Collette: His brain

12:16
Comment From Jake
Which one is nando in

Jason Collette: The mixed auction that begins at 4p ET

12:16
Jason Collette: Marcell Ozuna $4 to Zola

12:17
Comment From Doug Dennis
Papelbon threat = trade for someone.

12:18
Jason Collette: McGehee (3B only) to Gianella

12:20
Jason Collette: quite the difference in the Miami outfield. Stanton $30, Yelich $14, Ozuna $4……Marisnick $1

12:20

12:27
Comment From Doug Dennis
Ike D/Duda–both on Tristan’s team at greatly diff. prices.

12:28
Jason Collette: National Parks are cheap – Ft.McKenry goes $3

12:29
Comment From Doug Dennis
I like McKenry. He didn’t go at all in LABR–not even during 6-rd reserve draft.

Jason Collette: He can hit a bit, but he’s so bad behind the plate in throwing runners out and it cuts into his PT

12:29
Jason Collette: Juan Uribe $6 to Carty

12:30
Comment From Doug Dennis
ok–Carty’s team is starting to look really good.

Jason Collette: he’s equally bad back behind the plate

12:35
Comment From LVW
Hertz gets Benoit and Clippard for $7 while Street and Soriano go for $25.

Jason Collette: Street’s LOB% rate was entertaining last year.

12:37
Jason Collette: Tommy Medica goes to Gene for $1.

12:37
Comment From LVW
So was Freeman’s BABIP with runners in scoring position.

Jason Collette: wrong. It was .865 with RISP

12:37
Comment From Doug Dennis
Gene hates Y.Alonso, so Medica makes sense.

Jason Collette: yea – good profit potential

12:38
Jason Collette: Gianella is the first to close out his roster with Maybin at $7

12:41
Jason Collette: Syndergaaaaaaaaaaard only goes $2

12:41
Comment From LVW
SW can be any hitter or pitcher, is that correct?

   Jason Collette: yep

12:42
Jason Collette: end game time as people get the 1-2 dollar players to fill spots

12:43
Comment From Doug Dennis
SW slots and reserves are fascinating to me, so . . .

12:45
Jason Collette:Leake $3, Gindl $1, Arroyo $4, Scutaro $2

12:46
Comment From LVW
How long of a leash do you think Khris Davis will have. Is Gindl potentially a threat to his playing time?

Jason Collette: a very long leash

12:46
Jason Collette: Danny Espinosa $2. Don’t know where he’ll play, but if he is traded, it could be nice for his value. Taylor Jordan and his slider for $2

12:47
Comment From Doug Dennis
I’m a Taylor Jordan fan.

Jason Collette: yea, he’s looked good this spring

12:47
Jason Collette:JOSE LOBATON FOR $1 IS THE STEAL OF THE MINUTE!!

12:49
Comment From LVW
Do you like Jordan or Roark better, Doug.

Jason Collette: I’m not speaking for Doug, but I like his mother better than Roark. Doug’s mom is a hell of a pitcher. She developed that arm throwing pans at him

12:49
Jason Collette: Delgado, who may make that D-Back rotation, goes for $1

12:49
Comment From Doug Dennis
Jason knows my mom too well! I go 1) Jordan 2) mom 3) Roark

12:49
Comment From DVR
Delgado for $1 is nice.

12:50
Jason Collette: Brett Anderson in Colorado going $4 < Delgado going $1

12:51
Jason Collette: quiet sleeper – Arrieta $1 for Kreutzer.

12:51
Comment From Doug Dennis
If Anderson could stay healthy, he’d be double-digit. But he never has. Problem with Delgado is that he can cause harm to WHIP/ERA, so owner has to pick his spots.

Jason Collette: and that slider is going to have a tough time in Denver

12:51
Jason Collette: Juan Francisco and Jeff Baker $1 each

12:52
Comment From Doug Dennis
Juan Francisco at $1 isn’t terrible. Having to spend $1 on hitters is.

12:53
Jason Collette: and I really like Hammel at $2. He looked fantastic when I saw him pitch earlier this week

12:53
Comment From Doug Dennis
You may be right about Anderson, but I am curious to see. Hope he can stay healthy long enough to get a data set > 30 ip.

12:53
Jason Collette: Kendrys Morales goes $8 on the speculation play

12:54
Derek Carty via Twitter :

After freaking out that I spent too much money in middle rounds and wouldn’t have enough for bargains, think it turned out well #ToutWars NL
12:54
Comment From Doug Dennis
Morales–may not sign until June!

Jason Collette: I think that’s dumb on he/Boras’s part. Just take the pillow deal now and go hit

12:55
Comment From Doug Dennis
I agree, but they seem dug in.

12:55
Jason Collette: Brian Wilson’s knuckleball goes $1

12:57
Comment From Doug Dennis
Zola’s pitching is fantastic–and cost-effective.

12:57
Jason Collette: Zola drops $7 on Sean Marshall to end his draft. “Are you done, Todd?” — “I was done awhile ago”

12:57
Comment From LVW
If the Orioles signed Morales what compensation would they lose since they’ve already lost their 1st 2 picks ?

   Jason Collette: 55th overall pick

12:58
Comment From Doug Dennis
Zola-always leaves a little money at the end. Would be better served to get that $5-7 hitter earlier.

12:58
Comment From Doug Dennis
55th pick AND amount of money to Morales. Morales wants $14.1m at a minimum. Pipe dream at this point.

12:59
Jason Collette: Lenny gets one of his $1 potential closers if 5 things go right in Fujikawa. Seth gets Burch Smith

1:00
Comment From Doug Dennis
I got both Fujikawa and Burch Smith in LABR #scrapingthebottom

1:01
Jason Collette: Nick Vincent went $3. Peter takes Heaney for $1, and  Lenny dollars out his catchers with Federowicz and Bryan Pena

1:01
Jason Collette: Seth buys that Van Slyke home run for $1, Peter takes Kris Bryant for $1. Gene kicks the table

1:03
Jason Collette: final 2 players – Bogusevic and Derek Deitrich. That’s a hell of a Mr. Irrelevant pick!

1:04
Comment From LVW
I like Dietrich.

1:04
Comment From Doug Dennis
Bogusevic!! Didn’t think he’d make it. Dietrich–like the bat, but the Marlins don’t like it enough to play over Donovan Solano and Rafael Furcal (yikes!)

1:05
Jason Collette: That’ll do it – check out the reserve pics on the sheet

1:06
Jason Collette: Thanks for hanging around – see you at 4p for the mixed!
